| Just before leaving the ship for the marathon |
| The first start - all women, men over 60 and all half-marathoners. The rest of us started two minutes later. |
| The course started at the Russian base, went out to the glacier, returned to the Russian base and passed the Chilean and Uruguayan bases to the Chinese station, then turned around to return to the Russian base and then repeated the course. The terrain was muddy, rocky, and hilly in addition to the glacier - truly a challenging course. The temperature was around freezing but the wind was relatively calm much of the time although there were periods of snow and noticeable winds. |
